Why Winchester
What it is like to rent in Clark County
Winchester is the county seat of Clark County, about 18 miles east of Lexington. It is big enough to have everything you need day to day — a hospital, a full-size grocery, hardware stores, restaurants on Main Street — and small enough that you are not spending forty minutes in traffic to get to any of it.
The commute is the part most renters ask about. I-64 runs straight into Lexington, which puts downtown at roughly 20 to 25 minutes and the Hamburg shopping area at about 15. For anyone working in Lexington but priced out of it, that trade has gotten a lot more appealing over the last few years.
Renting here also means the stock is thin. Most of what is available in Winchester is single family houses, so a two or three bedroom home with managed maintenance, laundry hookups, and no yard to mow is genuinely hard to find.
